Dows Lake and Tulips

Dows Lake by Little Italy has a yearly Tulip Festival. It starts later this week, so lots of tulips are in bloom.

The lake itself is a very relaxing place. You can hire kayaks, and people fish around it. The waterfront houses look really expensive, below is a photo of some.

Beds of tulips line one side of the lake.

Canal is full

This was the canal, empty, a couple of weeks ago. Below is it now, filled and working for the summer.

Also, by the canal we saw a really tame squirrel (begging for food at our feet, above), and a chipmunk.

Little Italy

Kendal from my work showed us round Little Italy.

Lots of restaurants and places to eat, and a lot of the buildings have been dressed to look more European.

I got my hair cut the other day.

We went to Pub Italia - they serve over 200 different beers and ales. The had Old Speckled Hen and Hobgoblin from England.

Reading the Beer Bible.

Walking along the river

Another sunny day, so we walked along the Ottawa River, which is the border between Ontario and Quebec.

The Canadian Museum of Civilisation, on the other side in Gatineau, is "the most visited museum in Canada" according to it's press. The buildings are some interesting shapes.

An island with lots of seagulls on, very noisy.

Sunny Byward Market and the Lock

The weather has been amazing recently, sunny and warm, it feels like summer on some days. Byward Market gets much bigger when the sun is out (and more crowded) and has more stalls outside.

Having some fruity drinks and gelatto ice cream.

Rastafarian dog.

This is down by the lock where the canal meets the river. The lock is long - there's about 5 separate chambers before you reach the end. It's not in use at the moment as the canal is still empty from the winter when it was frozen over, but sometime soon it will all be flooded.

A muskrat on some debris, trapped in one of the chambers.

To show how quickly the weather has changed, people in shorts and sandals walking past a pile of snow.

Bits and Pieces from Ottawa

People are crazy about the Senators ice hockey team. This is a store of just Senators stuff in the mall.

We went with someone from work to an improv comedy night, like Whose Line Is It Anyway on TV, it was funny.

They sell Lindt Easter bunnies at work, and also sell their own brand cheaper ones, which look a little bit... odd.

This Mexican wrestler guy is around town advertising mobile phones.

Feeding time at Cat Parliament. Spot the ginger cat.

There's a sweet shop called Sugar Mountain, which has retro stuff on the walls, including this Garbage Pail Kids poster.

A million Pez's.
