Went to Canada Fan Expo 2009, a huge exhibition of Sci fi, Comics, Horror, Anime and Gaming. Had a brill time, tons of cool stuff, we have a 3 day ticket, this is just from the first day.
This shows a little bit of it, but it's really massive. Loads of people have dressed up for it. There's a competition for best costumes. Here are just a few:
Anime characters (no idea which ones)
Rorshach
Where's Wally
Old Batman TV Series characters
Painted on costume
V for Vendetta guy
There's people signing autographs also:
The Incredible Hulk!
Sarah Connor from Terminator
The Rabbit guy from Donnie Darko
I went to some seminars held in side rooms:
Monsters in Modern Literature, with Max Brooks, author of Zombie Survival Guide and World War Z (and son of Mel "Blazing Saddles" Brooks). Also with some other people I hadn't heard of. Was interesting and very fun discussion.
This guy writes for Batman and Simpsons comics, and runs a course in Toronto on how to write comics. He was a great lecturer, talked about the flow of action and what happens in between the panels.
This was a talk on making Star Wars props, mostly different blasters.
Marvel have a huge stand with loads of free comics to take.
Tons of comics for sale, loads as cheap as $1, but also some rare ones for crazy money. The most expensive I saw was $1200. The comics behind this guy were all $100 - $600 each. Wowsers!
People playing competitive Counter Strike.
Guitar Hero Competition
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles had a stand, selling prints of classic pictures from the earliest violent 80's comics.
Film trailer and bike for the new TRON film.
This guy sold swords.
We asked about a God of War sword, but this is all he had.
God of War 3!
I went to a stand where they photograph you and put you in film posters. Me fighting Michael Myers (with a rubber chicken) in new Halloween 2.
