We were invited to a cottage by a lake for the long Labour Day weekend by some friends we'd met at the Beaches in Toronto. The lake is by the town of Baysville nr Muskoka, and was about a 3 hour drive from the city. Going to a cottage when it's hot is a very Canadian thing to do, we've been told.
Benoit kindly drove us there. Once in the Muskoka region there where lots of colourful, marbled rocks lining the roads. These are part of the Canadian Shield which stretches across parts of North America - Wikipedia describes the area as "very thin soil lying on top of the bedrock, with many bare outcrops. This arrangement was caused by severe glaciation during the last ice age, which covered the Shield and scraped the rock clean."
Benoit cooking dinner on the deck on the first night. Benoit, Jane and Etienne are all brilliant cooks and the food was delicious all the weekend.
